Employment Drops by 85,000

Many were expecting December to show a mild payroll decrease, or perhaps an increase in jobs. Not so.

Nonfarm payroll employment fell by 85,000 in December, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 10.0 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment fell in construction, manufacturing, and wholesale trade, while temporary help services and health care added jobs.

Unemployment rates for the major worker groups--adult men (10.2 percent),adult women (8.2 percent), teenagers (27.1 percent), whites (9.0 percent), blacks (16.2 percent), and Hispanics (12.9 percent)--showed little change inDecember. The unemployment rate for Asians was 8.4 percent, not seasonally
adjusted.

Among the unemployed, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks and over) continued to trend up, reaching 6.1 million. In December, 4 in 10 unemployed workers were jobless for 27 weeks or longer.

The civilian labor force participation rate fell to 64.6 percent in December. The employment-population ratio declined to 58.2 percent.

  1. You forgot to mention how the govt counts the unemployed. Once you have exhausted your unemployment benefits, you are not counted as unemployed. You're off their books and techically NOT unemployed.

  2. In he U.S. BLS Report it also mentioned that the work force dropped by 661,000 in December. Where did they get that number?, it pretty well skews all of their other statistics! This is more like the U.S BS report!

  3. OK, the American people have given our government a chance. We rushed to the polls, believing in democracy, voting for "Change."

And we get Bush's 3rd term instead.

Our system is broken. Ballot pulls won't fix it; it's too far gone.

    Obama, Obama, he's our man!
    If HE won't do it...
    THEN *NONE* OF THEM WILL.

9/11 was an inside job meant to scare the populace into relinquishing our rights & acquiescing to whatever humiliations these fascists want to put us through. Global Warming is a similar ploy---scare the public into giving up rights, paying more taxes, living under supra-national governments which citizens will have no say over, etc.

It's time for the American people to realize that both Global Warming and Al-Qaeda are fictitious boogey-men.

The elitists who own this country are more opposed to democracy than anyone else on the planet, and they are trying to put us on lock down so we will be too confused, dumb, and scared to even start resisting.
