A Declaration of Independence from Big Government

Richard Ebeling emails:

I have posted, today, a new piece on Northwood University's "In Defense of Capitalism & and Human Progress" blog on 'A Declaration of Independence Against Big Government.'

We all remember the stirring worlds of the Declaration of each person's right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

But we have often forgotten is why the Founding Fathers declared independence from the British Crown.

The British government had violated the rights of individuals to their most basic civil liberties (the "rights of an Englishman"), and had enveloped all of the colonies with a spider's web of government regulations, controls, restrictions, and prohibitions on the economic and commercial freedom of the American colonists.

Theirs was a revolt against Big Government and the British government's denial of economic liberty.

Given everything that our own government is doing today in American, there is an important lesson to be learned from those Founding Fathers when remembering our Fourth of July celebrations this weekend.

Ebeling's full post is here.
