The Disturbing "Super Congress" that is being Created as Part of the Debt Negotiations

There is some very alarming news coming out of the debt negotiations. Hidden in any deal may be the creation of a "Super Congress" that would result in more power being placed in the hands of the super-elitists and dilute the influence of the average congressman. The left is most up in arms about this development, as it would likely mean that cuts to Medicare and Social Security would be easier to get through Congress, but it could also result in the elimination of tax credits for retirement savings plans and the elimination of the tax deduction for mortgage interest payments. The "Super Congress" would place more power in the hands of Washington D.C. power players and limit the power of the average congressman.

Ryan Grimm explains how this "Super Congress" would work, a joint committee that both House Speaker Boehner and the President are in favor of (My emphasis):
Debt ceiling negotiators think they've hit on a solution to address the debt ceiling impasse and the public's unwillingness to let go of benefits such as Medicare and Social Security that have been earned over a lifetime of work: Create a new Congress.

This "Super Congress," composed of members of both chambers and both parties, isn't mentioned anywhere in the Constitution, but would be granted extraordinary new powers. Under a plan put forth by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and his counterpart Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), legislation to lift the debt ceiling would be accompanied by the creation of a 12-member panel made up of 12 lawmakers -- six from each chamber and six from each party.

Legislation approved by the Super Congress -- which some on Capitol Hill are calling the "super committee" -- would then be fast-tracked through both chambers, where it couldn't be amended by simple, regular lawmakers, who'd have the ability only to cast an up or down vote. With the weight of both leaderships behind it, a product originated by the Super Congress would have a strong chance of moving through the little Congress and quickly becoming law. A Super Congress would be less accountable than the system that exists today, and would find it easier to strip the public of popular benefits. Negotiators are currently considering cutting the mortgage deduction and tax credits for retirement savings, for instance, extremely popular policies that would be difficult to slice up using the traditional legislative process.

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) has made a Super Congress a central part of his last-minute proposal, multiple news reports and people familiar with his plan say...Obama has shown himself to be a fan of the commission approach to cutting social programs and entitlements.
Got that? "Anti-tax" Boehner wants a Super Congress, which could eliminate popular tax credits and deductions. With "anti-tax" patriots like Boehner, who needs Democrats?

Bottom line: What the entire D.C. crowd is really looking for is a way to screw the elderly and also raise taxes, while not get caught doing it.

  1. Unbelievable. The powers of the government are not restricted by the constitution at all. The rule of law is dead.

There can be no reform of this government. Our republic is dead- long live the empire!

  2. In the entire article, not a single occurrence of "defense" or "military" in ANY context. Not even in the context of not cutting it at all. It's like the Wizard of Oz. Pay no attention to the spending behind that curtain!

  6. First the warfare state has to go, that will give time to drastically reform the welfare ponzi schemes. That is the only solution. That or a politbureau creating hyper inflation and a police state.

  8. Of course they'll take away the ability to put money tax free into a retirement account but I'll bet you that they will leave money paid into a pension for a worker to go completely untaxed. Gee I wonder which group of workers has pensions these days? The tax laws are already grossly unfair to workers with contributory retirement plans then those in defined benefit plans, especially the government workers. In Florida our government elites (fire and police) can sock away $500,000 to over $1mil tax free over a five year period by this crooked program we have called the drop.

(From Chapter 1, “Kosher Hooks” by S.I. Fishgal, http://stores.lulu.com/fishgal)

"Amerikakers are fabulously rich, awfully wasteful and corrupt… (In case that Russian, Yiddish or German languages are not your forte, kaka and kaker mean feces and its appropriate derivative.)
…Amerikakers believe to and cram all, but understand zilch. The unabated consumerisms, incompetence, currency debasing and keeping up appearances indebt their offspring, enrich their enemies and turn capitalism to kaput-alism. Amerikakers are above Marx’s and Lenin’s teaching that such deeds ruined even Rome and will the US Empire of debt and “useful idiots” (Lenin’s term). They borrow money they do not have on the stuff they do not need. Yet, Amerikakers do not own their useless stuff. It owns them and is not loaded on a hearse anymore. It was quite liberating not to keep up appearances during the American Revolution. Then the troops lined worthless bills called shinplasters in the knee-length boots.
Amerikakers convert the capitalist society to the capital-less one and vote for the like sullied, overpaid brain-dead public serpents, sham debt peddlers, bigots, cranks, hustlers, and pulpit artists franchising race or faith into a fat living and political career. For the world revolution, Lenin, Trotsky, and, for the corrupted democracy, some US presidents ruined countries regardless of the people acceptance even after the capitalists’ capital capitulated.
Since universities develop one’s entire abilities, especially the idiocy, the educated idiots are most dangerous. A Nobel laureate for his math exercises on options (left nameless here for his own sake) applied that in his hedge fund, and did not ruin the entire financial system just by accident. Of course, Sir Isaac Newton failed to gauge “the madness of the crowd” (his term) too, but he ruined fiscally only self and became famous not just for that.
... God bless and help America, the country of best brightest politicians (i.e. masterly liars), incompetents, useful idiots, and great opportunities, especially for fraud! Welcome to Amerikaka, Comrades!
    Amen!"

  14. I think this is called, "Taxation Without Representation." I seem to recall this concept used to be upsetting to us. Also, there is no need to eliminate our interest deductions on homes or savings. The govt. takes in plenty of money. Instead, they need to radically cut spending and leave us alone. Why is this not on the table? Can we live without the Department of Education. Yep. Can we live with a stripped down EPA? Yep. Can we live with 1/3 the forign aid we dole out every year to countries that hate us anyway. Uh huh. And don't get me started on crazy study grants...

  17. For the first time cost factors are coming to the surface regarding the Middle Eastern and other wars, in the public debate. It is beginning to percolate through the American psyche that they cannot afford to be military masters of the globe. Only the rising mountain of debt obscures the fact that America is going bankrupt. Like the Titanic, slowly sinking whilst most are unaware of the gravity of the situation. Nothing being proposed does more than nibble at the edges of the problem. The political elites are paralyzed. New committees and a centralisation of power is not much of a solution. Just as creating more cheap credit and debt to solve a cheap credit and debt crisis, except temporarily, so centralizing power won't solve a problem created by centralized power.

  18. If these people in government were working for me, I would have fired them along time ago for not being productive on the job and trying to bring down the company. There is no more America that our forefathers anticipated. America is gone. We must rename ourselves as Russia or better yet Mexico. They might as well sick the troops on the people and lick their chops after the massacre.
