Emergency Committee for Israel Attacks 'Occupy Wall Street'

Politico is reporting that the Bill Kristol led, Emergency Committee for Israel, a Republican group that's focused primarily on criticizing President Obama's Israel policy, is opening a new front on Occupy Wall Street and the politicians -- notably Nancy Pelosi and Obama -- who have spoken sympathetically of the protests.

The ECI is running an ad featuring anti-Semitic and anti-Israel signs and incidents at the Occupation. According to Politico, the ad is part of a broader conservative push to define the "Occupy" protests.

What's interesting about all this is that last night I passed through the 'Occupy Wall Street' camp at MacPherson Square in Washington DC and there was actually a Jewish ceremony going on. The males were wearing yarmulkes and signing in, I'm guessing, Hebrew. The tent-like structure contained signs on all sides that, again I'm guessing, were in Hebrew.

One of the female participants was standing off to the side and explaining to another camp occupant the meaning behind the ceremony that was going on.

There were probably a dozen participants in the ceremony, and most of the rest of the camp seemed to be in their own groups, or wandering, with pretty much no one paying attention to the ceremony, although it was in the middle of the camp.

But, here's Bill Kristol's ad on the Occupation:

  1. From the ad, "hate is not an American value."

Good, glad that we can at least agree on that. So, why the hate-baiting video? Seems as if this video has a contradictory message and is rife with collectivist notions. It is almost as if the ad is saying, "Stop the hate. Instead of hating this group of people, you should instead be hating that group of people."

Am I the only one that sees this? I certainly hope not...

  2. How is that interesting? Kristol even calls these guys "anti-semitic" (a phrase that now means "anyone opposed to anything the Israeli government decides to do") because of statements like this.

  3. I saw the video of Rivera being sent off, and there was a kid in a kippah (skullcap) in one for a few seconds.

It's harder to pick out the girls, but if you know how Orthodox girls dress, you can pick them out quite reliably (:-).

I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't at least a small presence of Orthodox Jews there (if not other types too). New York is still, by far, the city with the highest number of Jews in the world. And a significant number of them are observant to various degrees.

  4. Well it is Sukkot . This Jewish holiday involves building a hut like structure and eating dinner in it for 5 days. Like any holiday there is meaning and tradition.

  5. The video is right about one thing: OWS is a mob. It doesn't have a message. If there is no identifiable leader and no message, the protest is nothing but noise. There are people at these protests who hold contradictory, irreconcilable views. Many of them are hard-core communists for whom protesting really is an occupation. I don't see why any intelligent person would waste time trying to divine some "message" from all this noise.

What interests me about OWS is who might be funding at least some of the protests, and to what end. I don't think any good is going to come of it, anyway.

  6. When a little twit calls you "anti-semitic", it is really telling you to "shut up"...Same with the twit calling you "racist".
