Going Viral: Police Pepper Spray Sitting UC Davis Protesters

The OWS protesters may be clueless about economics, but the intensifying police state tactics are damn scary. It's the socialists versus the police state.

The pepper spraying is at the start of the video clip.

  1. They let one of their friends get dragged away by the state for doing nothing but sitting peacefully on the sidewalk. Then they chant about "join our strength." Watership Down anyone? The owsers are just as ridiculous as the police.

  2. Good to see socialists getting a lesson in the true nature of the government they so love.

  3. Occasionally the state shows its true nature, and most Americans will defend the police action with the theory if you don;t obey you deserve what you get. It use to be we only dealt with foreigners like that. Yes, the shouts of "shame on you" do doubt will haunt our "noble" public servants.

I don't think they will be haunted any more so than the occupying forces are haunted by jeers in Iraq or Afghanistan.

  5. At what point are these socialists going to start linking the physical assault they are receiving by the socialized police with the fact the police are socialized?

  6. America will tolerate no Spring uprisings. Those are for foreign countries that need Western corporate access.

  7. @Anon 10:53 I was being facetious, they are probably sitting around, laughing, while drinking and watching the video

  9. Bob, I know that you have (reasonable) differences with the socialists in the OWS crowd.

But, my gut sense is that there is political capital to be gained here. Ron Paul: "If elected President, on my first day in office, I will do two things. First, as CinC, I will immediately cease all overseas military operations and immediately commence bringing all our troops home. Second, I will use the National Guard to protect non-violent demonstraters from attacks by militarized police."

I know dumbed down Fox News Republicans will be aghast with the second point. But, as they are aghast with the more important first point, who cares.

The second point will really resonate with Democrats and liberty-minded independents.

  10. Something just doesn't make sense about the "elites/elitists" new found love of using overt force in a popular movement.

I think it's not your average politician/police officers ordering this. Rather it may be upper echelons trying to force a mass widespread civil unrest in order to force some kind of national or stateswide martial law type of action.

  11. Elitists and their minions only need the peoples' vote every two, four or six years to occupy elected positions of power. Once there, they can appoint their friends, write legislation favorable to their sponsors and send government business to their peers.

In between, they really don't want to hear from the people, non-contributors.

Homeland Security exists to maintain order and the status quo. They've trained on quelling civil disobedience and have high tech methods of intervening. They even infiltrate "subversive" groups, sometimes inciting "unlawful" behavior.

America is a police state, mostly unseen. It's amazing that people standing on their own property can be arrested for filming officers in a public street.

  12. At the rate that our society continues to spiral downward, and that people are becoming increasingly angered, I suspect that cops like this one will either a.) disappear one night or b.) will come home to a mutilated family one night.

If people can't find head on, they will find guerilla warfare style and it will get very VERY ugly. I don't want to be around any other people if/when this begins.

  13. @ anon 2:31 pm,

IMHO, I question whether President Paul will activate the National Guard given my understanding of his states rights views. Wouldn't it establish a precedent in his Administration to interfere in a state matter?

  14. This is a pretty tame and controlled non-lethal reaction by the storm troopers from what I can tell. I don't know what these students were blockading or obstructing but the response seems orderly calm. I think people should be able to protest but like union's that block factories from scab workers, some protesters rely on force or obstruction to make a point.

  15. I get the drift of the post, but to be fair to the cops, if I was asked to disburse a group bent on destroying private property or even occupying it, you can bet I would err on the use of force that maximized my own safety. What it is not going to be is a fair fight.

It is very easy to view videos like this and miss the overall milieu, anarchy and fear that envelops these situations, even in the enforcers. Having been in a number of violent crowds, I can tell you that it is very scary and the threat of being overwhelmed by numbers is very real.

The question may be more elementally asked this way: Should we ask cops to protect private property? If so, how would you like them to do it? Because there is hardly any 'good' way to do it, and someone is more than likely to get hurt.

  16. There is nothing "fair" to give to the cops here.

The pepper spray was not required to remove the students, as shown in the video, the students were easily removed. The pepper spray was nothing more than a punnishment... I thought that's what statist's claimed the judicial branch of governemnt was for?

To harm non-violent peaceful protestors is not a fight, by any strech of imagination, the actions of the cops can hardly be called "fair'
