The Coming Conflict between Those who Produce and Those who Take

The conflict is coming to America, as a result of too much taxation and too much giveaways. Pat Buchanan explains:

The family, cinder block of society, is disintegrating, and along with it, society itself. Writes [Robert] Rector, "The welfare system is more like a 'safety bog' than a safety net."
Heritage scholars William Beach and Patrick Tyrrell put Rector's numbers in perspective:
"Today ... 67.3 million Americans – from college students to retirees to welfare beneficiaries – depend on the federal government for housing, food, income, student aid or other assistance. ... The United States reached another milestone in 2010. For the first time in history, half the population pays no federal income taxes."
The 19th century statesman John C. Calhoun warned against allowing government to divide us into "tax-payers and tax-consumers." This, he said, "would give rise to two parties and to violent conflicts and struggles between them, to obtain the control of the government."
We are there, Mr. Calhoun, we are there

"The principle that the majority have a right to rule the minority, practically resolves all government into a mere contest between two bodies of men, as to which of them shall be masters, and which of them slaves; a contest, that — however bloody — can, in the nature of things, never be finally closed, so long as man refuses to be a slave." - Lysander Spooner

  3. Calhoun was right about secession and the North ripping off the south.

And he right about the source of evils back then & now:

“A power has risen up in the government greater than the people themselves, consisting of many and various powerful interest, combined in one mass; and held together by the cohesive power of the vast surplus in banks.” - May 27, 1836 (from Calhoun's speech on Senate floor)

    1. Excellent quote, Chris.

When a man is willing to subject his fellow men to his will he has turned the corner and lives in darkness. And when his government becomes the mechanism whereby he justifies it and the common welfare the means by which he rationalizes it he has completed that journey.

Oh God, let us return to the light!

  6. "For the first time in history, half the population pays no federal income taxes."

You mean for the first time since 1913. Before that, two halves of all Americans paid no federal income teases...

    1. as Ron Paul said "we are half way there". No person should have to pay into the federal govenment. Our states should pay the feds not the other way around. This is a major part of the problem.

  8. There is a book published in 1947 entitled The New Deal in Old Rome by H. J. Haskel that presents almost a perfect mirror for our government in its excesses, its abuses of powers, its ignorance and in the faith it puts in its own solutions. Unfortunately, most politicians never realize that the solutions offered up and put into place by the government, more often than not, become problems which naturally require more solutions, which in turn become problems, which require more solutions...ad infinitum! Someone always seems to have a new idea, but the snake is simply eating itself from the tail up as the circle of incompetence continues to manifest itself within the political sphere onto the sphere of our society.

The character of this country, of our society has been altered to such a degree that, like old Rome, more and more people are depending on government as a source of not only sustenance, but also many politically connected corporations depend on it as a back-stop against failure. Of course, it cannot continue, it will not continue as the canker worm of decay eats away at the fiber of this now illegitimate system of consolidated power that is destroying the last remnants of the Republic. The outcome will not be pleasant...just ask the citizens of Old Rome.
