TSA Pushing the TSA Theater Envelope

An EPJ reader emails:
Talk about TSA theatre...When I was flying out of FL, I noticed TSA agents rooting through women's purses **at the gate**. One woman got pretty upset asking why they were doing this since she already passed through security. I didn't hear the response as it was the same time that we were boarding. In any case, it looks as though the envelope is getting pushed further.

  1. It only takes one person to acquiesce to perpetuate the system. It takes many more to overturn the system. There's no point in wasting energy getting "pretty upset" if you're simply going to acquiesce. Remember there are more of us than them.

  2. I won't fly commercial again until there are no more checkpoints. If everyone would refuse to fly just for a few days, that would send a message... Air travelers need to conduct a national don't-fly zone! As anon@2:13 says, don't go along. Either get yourself arrested or stop using the airlines. I'd rather take my extremely remote chance of a terrorist than with the 100% certainty of the TSA.

  3. Went through Austin-Bergstrom airport, one that had been a holdout on full body scanners. They now have them, and despite going through one with hands over head, asked to remove my belt, it apparently picked up the image of two wallets in back pockets. So had to take these out, and TSA guy makes a wisecrack about carrying two wallets. Kept an eye on them, wondering if they or the contents might go missing. Another first, they put a chemical on my fingers, I asked the TSA guy if they were finger printing me, he said no, it checks for presence of explosive material on your skin. So my question, what is the use of these new scanners that cost millions, take nude images, irradiate you, yet unlike before you now have to remove belts, wallets, and have chemicals put on your fingers?

  4. It's been a busy week for TSA. So far this week they molested three children, a ten year old with a diabetes pump, a four year old who hugged her grandma and a seven year old with cerebral palsy, twice! They also sexually assaulted a Congressman, molested an elderly couple and robbed them of $300 and four TSA screeners were arrested for smuggling drugs through LAX.

Yet the TSA apologists who continue to say that this crime and abuse by TSA is somehow improving airline security. They seem to think these perverts are the good guys.

There were a total of 91 TSA workers arrested in the last 16 months including 12 arrested for child sex crimes, over 25 for theft, ten for smuggling and even one for murder. Crime, abuse and incompetence is so widespread in TSA that even Kip Hawley, the last TSA Director, has called for its overhaul.

This just demonstrates how stupid and sick the whole TSA approach is and why it needs to be overhauled. TSA has done more damage to our liberty, way of life and morality than Al Qaeda could have ever hoped to do.

It’s long past time to replace this agency with a sensible and effective system.
