Walter Block on Privatizing Roads

  1. Eminent domain and zoning laws cause sprawl, increased driving and overbuilding infrastructure which today is an economic albatross around the nation's neck.

Gov monopoly stifles innovation (no maglev PRT?). Transport infrastructure technology hasn't changed much in 100 years.

All gov spending decisions are political and have little to do with improving transportation. Projects are built to payoff construction contractors and engineering consultants who bribe politicians to get juicy state contracts.

There is a revolving door between engineering consultants and bureaucrats resulting in total cronyism.

The transportation industry in the US has to be one of the most corrupt around.
