France Formally Requests US Military Aid for Mali Invasion

According to Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey, the French government has formally asked the United States for military aid for its invasion of Mali, saying that the aid will conclude planning, logistics and air support, but not combat troops.

France invaded on Saturday, and initially said they believed they would turn Mali into a “terror-free” democracy within a matter of weeks. Since then they have expressed surprise at the strength of rebel fighters, however.

In all seriousness, does anyone know how many countries the government is currently bombing?

  2. Well, that didn't take long. And didn't that Schindler guy over at the Naval War College say the French would likely get things under control with their "vintage" colonial tactics?

In the end, I guess the French have no better chance of "pacifying" the Sahel with bombs and Legionnaires than the US Central Asia with drones and COIN. What a shocker!

And so the bloody bomb-and-blowback cycle rolls on and on and on . . .

  3. President Ron Paul to France: No, sorry, can't help you with that.

I'm too busy trying to abolish the federal government.

    1. Probably terror-free in a matter of weeks because that's how long they figured it would take to decide to retreat.

      "Run away!"

  5. As Mali produces somewhere on the order of 80 tons of gold per year, it almost appears that the German bank asking for its gold back from France and the US was actually an order to invade Mali.

    1. It that why it is going to take 7 years to return the gold - the "custodians" need to go out and mine it?

      Poor Germans got screwed again.

  6. Awesome!myou know I was just thinking the other day that we haven't spread ourselves thin enough, we haventnwastednenoughnresources, we haven't killed enough innocent people, and we certainly haven't had enough taxing and borrowing, so we need another war. God, I'm glad Obama freed us from the aggressive militarism of the Bush regime. Best. President. Ever!

Obviously a mighty country we have to be afraid of. What do the French need us for? Have they not figured out how to destroy mud huts yet?? Oh yeah, they are French.

Ah yes, those pesky rebel fighters. They're always good for a surprise or two, aren't they?
