Where the Best Jobs Are

The Milken Institute is out with it's Milken Institute's Best-Performing Cities index, which looks at jobs, pay and the technology sector to determine which cities are experiencing strong economic growth.

According to the index, the top ten metro areas are:

1. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, CA

2.Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos TX

3.Raleigh-Cary NC

4. Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown TX

5. Washington-Arlington-Alexandria DC-VA-MD-WV

6. Salt Lake City, UT

7. Provo-Orem UT

8. Cambridge-Newton-Framingham MA

9. Charleston-Nortg Charleston-Summerville SC

10. Fort Worth-Arlington TX

  1. There's a *ton* of employment in DC, but it's all in one industry that people reading this page probably don't want to be in. And housing is expensive, although 40+ years of experience, if not more by others, suggests that one should never bet against real estate in the DC area...

    1. As long as the Federal government keeps expanding and spending, the DC metro area real estate market will continue to rise.

  3. I use to live in DC/NOVA before moving to Minnesota.

    DC/NOVA is one of the least enjoyable places to live in the states, and I have lived in quite a few places.

    Not to mention that I'm sure the vast majority of the growth is public-sector, or at least public+private sector.
