Surprise: It's Global Cooling!

Almost a million more square miles of ocean is covered with ice than in 2012. Days before the annual autumn re-freeze is due to begin, an unbroken ice sheet more than half the size of Europe already stretches from the Canadian islands to Russia’s northern shores, reports MailOnline.

The Northwest Passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific has remained blocked by pack-ice all year. More than 20 yachts that had planned to sail it have been left ice-bound and a cruise ship attempting the route was forced to turn back.

Here's a MailOnline understatement:
Some eminent scientists now believe the world is heading for a period of cooling that will not end until the middle of this century – a process that would expose computer forecasts of imminent catastrophic warming as dangerously misleading.

  1. I too am a skeptic of global warming claims, but two data points here is absolutely useless to infer meaningful trends. I would like to see the ice sheet size over the last 25 or 50 years and then we could make some usefull observations. Your support of this small amount of data makes me question your ability to use data to understand another complex system, the economy.

    1. A plot of Arctic ice over the last 100 years shows a cooling trend since 1998. Not much, but significant.

I live in the South, and this is the coldest Summer since the 70s. The temps never broke 100, even in August- unheard of by anyone under 40.

I fear global cooling FAR more than warming- mitigating hot weather is easier than cold.

  3. Hi Anonymous #1 - You have a good argument, but I think the point Wenzel is making is that this specific data point is FAR outside what the currently accepted (by the scientific mainstream) global warming models would have predicted, thereby casting doubt on the models general validity. One data point cannot be used to prove a model correct, but it is sufficient to prove a model wrong (or at least cast major doubt on it). In a sense, that is the nature of science.

  4. The earth has not been warming since the late 1990s. In the last century, most of the warming occurred BEFORE 1940. The paleoclimatologists' attempt to eradicate the Medieval Warm Period (required if the warming line is to look like a "hockey stick") has been mostly obliterated by Steve McIntyre over at Climate Audit -- along with lots of other poor science done by the so-called "climate scientists". McIntyre has done this by getting their data -- often taking years of pursuit as these guys try to hide their taxpayer-funded data from scrutiny -- and using plain old MATH to show their follies.

    None of this matters.

The man-haters saw this coming years ago and began saying that "global warming" could cause "global cooling".

    So:

    1) If the earth warms, it's anthropogenic global warming.
    2) If the earth cools, it's anthropogenic global warming.

And this are the guys who supposedly follow science. Government meddling in science has turned science into nothing more than another religion.
