Metal Detectors Will Be Required at Major League Baseball Parks by 2015; DHS Is Advising

Big time sports and government stay cozy. The San Francisco Examiner reports:
Entering a big league ballpark will be a bit like going through an airport by 2015.
Major League Baseball has told its 30 teams they must implement security screening for fans by then, either with hand-held metal detection or walk-through magnetometers.
“This procedure, which results from MLB’s continuing work with the Department of Homeland Security to standardize security practices across the game, will be in addition to bag checks that are now uniform throughout MLB,” baseball spokesman Michael Teevan said Tuesday.

  1. And the police state grows and the noose continues to tighten. The best way to stop this is to not go to sporting events that require TSA-like abuse. When these morons loose enough money, this crap will stop.

  2. I called this. Not that it was that hard. Pro sports attendance is down and this will result in even less people going to games. Can you short the NFL

  3. So, the government has dealt a contract out to a metal detector producer and DHS is acting as the middle man and enforcer.

  4. The NHL told their teams to do this starting this season. I hate it!

  5. wow, when will the people say enough is enough? nope, they'll herd themselves like sheep to the slaughter through these metal detectors to get a seat and watch the pro-military sporting event transpire. "let's all rise for our national anthem..."

  6. I guess the wife and I will not be attending any more MLB games after this year. I hate airport security and there is no way I will put up with that just to buy a $5 hot dog and some overpriced, crappy beer.

  7. I can only assume that after the magnetometers comes the millimeter wave scanner? This is what the military industrial complex is all about. You need a lot of enemies to keep selling these machines to as many people as possible. How utterly ridiculous.

  8. Anything so the military industrial complex is not inconvenienced in the least carrying out foreign occupations and exterminations.

  9. So, the options are being inconvienced for 1.5 seconds, or potential have 10,000s of people (including children) die from terrorist attacks?

It's not a hard choice to anyone but the Insaneitarians.

    1. @Barry, Why not let the free market determine this cost/benefit trade-off between personal violation of every single attendee and the infinitely remote chance of a terrorist attack at any given event, which has never happened to my knowledge. Also, the gate check is pure security theater. A baseball stadium is a porous sieve with all the vendors and personnel coming and going, hauling in truckloads of beer & hot dogs. Any terrorist worth his salt would just get a minimum wage job at the stadium or driving the beer truck and sneak in weapons through the back door, just like what they can do at the airports should they so desire.

    2. Have you heard about gun-free zones? You create a honey pot, you attract the malware. But retard security personnel don't understand essentials of security when blinded by lure of easy money and crony crapitalism. Also, security retards don't understand principle of not poking hornet's nest. Hornet is not your friend.

    3. @Alan, you don't have a right to endanger my life. Allowing terrorists to come into private property and murder children is morally equivalent to doing the deed yourself, if it can be easily prevented, which it can in this case with common sense measures. However, Libertarians have to make problems because they have self-esteem issues since no one pays attention to them in real life.

@Anon, if you have zero guns you obviously have zero gun related murders. How many gun murders are in Micronesia each year? How about Greenland? How about America? Case closed.

    5. You have a better shot of getting hit by lightning 5 times than you do to die in a terrorist attack. You better never leave your house during a rainstorm.

    6. After all, Barry, a police state is a small price to pay for living in a free society, right?

    7. Barry's right. We don't have a right to endanger his life. That is why I recommend that Barry be locked in his house 24/7 with armed guards outside of it. We must shut down all internet connection to the house as well in case the terrorists use his computer to stage a cyberattack against the rest of the US. That is the only way that all of us can feel completely good that Barry is safe.

I live within spitting distance of MLB and NFL stadiums, and it's gotten to the point that this time of year is the only time there's any peace and quiet; during the seasons I can't sleeps because both stadiums are constantly being blown up. Someone has to put a stop to that, and scanner manufacturers who make a product no one in the entire world wants have to make a living too.

Sadly, I don't predict this will have any impact on sports, as it seems like the typical sports fan is a flag-waving military fetishist who genuinely believes in and is terrified of Muslims under their bed.

    10. This "safety measure" indicates a high probability that the next false flag attack will take place at a MLB game shortly before implementation is fully undertaken. Another good reason to avoid all MLB games in the future.

  10. I have not gone to a sporting event in over 5 years because of the increasingly close relationship between the sports leagues, Homeland Security, and the U.S. military. There seems to an overt desire on the part of our owners to conflate the idea of worshiping sports heros, and American men & women in uniform. Soon we will have to have to be videotaped in the bathroom stalls at all sports venues while being scrutinized by DHS goons.

  12. Strange. Didn't that crazy conspiracy theorist Alex Jones say this was going to happen?

He has record of getting it right. For example saying on his show that there was going to be a terrorist event in the near future and it was going to be blamed on Osama Bin Laden. This was right before 9/11.

  13. Hear that whistling sound? That's the sound of baseball attendance nose-diving. I bet they figure that people will be angry at first then get used to this insanity after a while. All I have to say is my wife and I already agreed, no more sports stadiums again ever. Could they please do this at the casinos too? I always lose and I need a good reason not to go.

  14. "Hear that whistling sound? That's the sound of baseball attendance nose-diving."

No Sir, that's the sound of the wind whistling around your bat and balls at the TSA gropes them...

  15. @Barry, You say, "if you have zero guns you obviously have zero gun related murders." But isn't the opposite true? It seems that the gun-free zones, like Sandy Hook, and the other schools, is where the big gun murders occur.

And for stadiums, if I as a stadium owner allow people in without searching, are you saying that I, the stadium owner, am morally equivalent to a murderer should something happen? Does that also mean that if I don't perform a background check on every attendee to see if they are a child molester and a child is molested in the stadium restroom that I am a child molester? Interesting.

And its always about the "chiiildren", isn't it? I believe you are so immersed in the command and control mode that you cannot see the difference between voluntary and involuntary assumption of risk.

  16. Having a police state presence at a sports events allows the ruling class to see who the loyal, boot-licking dupes (like Barry) are.
