ObamaCare Exchange Enrollees Can't Get Doctors To See Them

CBS Sacramento reports:

Down the Road: Expect legislation that will coerce doctors into taking Obamacare patients.

Physicians, it is time you start thinking about leaving the country. Government intervention doesn't impact everyone to the same degree, but the government steam roller is on the medical doctors' career path.

  1. Obamacare/Covered California "subscriber/welfare recipient"- "...I guess were left with the bottom of the barrel [regarding doctors]"

Yea, I guess you're right. Welcome to Statist's in Wonderland, also known as America 2014

  2. I'm a private practice physician and about a year ago I started looking for overseas options. I considered Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Sing has the closest thing to a free market in healthcare and I got a good job offer a hospital there.

The salary would be a bout a 30% pay cut from what I'm making now, and cost of living in Sing is WAAAYYYY higher than here. Still, there is opportunity for advancement and salary increases down the line. And I'm sure Obamacare will eventually hit me with a big pay cut anyway.

Still, fear of culture shock and having gotten used to life here kind of holds me back. Just about everyone I talk to about it tells me I'm crazy and that I should just stay here. I'm curious what EPJ community thinks.

    1. Singapore is a fantastic city. The only reason I haven't already moved there is it's quite expensive. But you could find much worse places to live. I say try it. Worse case you can decide a few years in it's not for you and head back. Also from Singapore you can travel easily all over Asia. Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, etc.. all a few hrs away. So a lot of opportunity to travel. Go for it.

    2. I agree with anon @11:39. There is no perfect state. English is spoken in singapore, its a very modern city and it is convenient to all of Asia where you may find something more to your liking if you are not completely happy. But getting a job offer makes the transition smoother.

  3. I have a close friend who lives and works in Sing. If you wish to speak your mind, stay away from Sing. Censorship rules. Sing is run by one family. Corruption is widespread and hidden. A great place for ambitious worker bees who are willing to shut up and work hard.

A republican paradise. A market-oriented dictatorship. Elections are rigged. Riots by the underclass are not reported in Western media. The ruling family provides also runs an unpublicized welfare state for the underclass.

Economy is controlled by insiders and large corporations. If open political debate is not important to you, if you like living in a controlled corporate culture, you might be happy there.

    1. Gee, from what you say, there won't be much of a culture shock for an American who chose to live there. Fascism is global, huh?

    2. Fixed:

"A statist paradise. A government-oriented dictatorship. Elections are rigged."

Market-oriented dictatorship my foot. What a moron.

  4. I don't know who checks back in old threads, but I wanted to thank everyone for their input.

@ Anon 11:05 AM, that would be the plan exactly: Work hard, earn money, save/invest. Rabble rousing and complaining about domestic Sing politics would not be on the agenda at all. I have no doubt there are real problems there. Execution for drug possession is plane evil, but at least Singapore wont ever invade some 3rd world country that can't fight back. And if it's the kind of place that rewards hard work, I would call that a plus, not a minus.

That said, I'm sure you are correct there are serious problems and annoyances, and a lot that one takes for granted living in the US would be missing in Sing. That's why it's a tough decision.

    Thanks again to all.

  5. @Mike. Obviously I should have taken into account that some people have trouble with subtlety. I used the term market-oriented dictatorship AFTER I established that Sing is run by one family and corruption is rampant and hidden. The family that runs Sing is market oriented - as long as they get their pound of flesh through taxes, regulation, property control etc.
Calling me a moron is a gratuitous insult. Because of people like you I comment sparingly on blogs. You will have last word. I will not respond to your next comment about me.
@Lysander. I understand your conflict. I've considered Sing also. Decided against it for quality of life reasons. Fortunately I'm not a doctor. The decision would have been much more difficult. Best of luck to you.

Man, who could imagine 50 years ago anyone would say that now? Not enough see the trouble in making doctors a pariah class.(mostly by gov't)

Obviously, I should have taken into account that some people have trouble with English. Think next time before typing. Thanks.
