Fed Minutes: December "Could Well Be" Time to Raise Interest Rates

The minutes from last month's  FOMC, Federal Reserve monetary policy meeting, shows that the Fed at that time considered that  it “could well ”raise short-term interest rates at the December policy meeting, set for December 15-16.

“Most participants anticipated that, based on their assessment of the current economic situation and their outlook for economic activity, the labor market, and inflation, these conditions could well be met by the time of the next meeting,” the minutes said.

There are a few factors, which I detail in the EPJ Daily Alert that could derail the Fed from hiking rates in December, but they are remote possibilities.

The full text of the minutes is here.
