Murray Rothbard on The Future of Austrian Economics

Professor Murray Rothbard (1926-1995) was dean of the Austrian School of economics, holder of the S.J. Hall Chair at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and Academic Vice President of the Ludwig von Mises Institute.

The author of 17 books and thousands of articles, the foremost Misesian economist, the father of modern freedom theory, and the most delightful personality in the profession, this great teacher here spellbinds an audience of students, faculty, and business leaders in the "Future of Austrian Economics," at the 1990 Mises University at Stanford.

  1. Anarcho-capitalism killed us. We should already have an enormous political Party by now.

  2. One of my great regrets is that I didn't discover Murray earlier. I really thought that I was the ONLY person who thought the way I did. I voted Libertarian, but wasn't too keen on all the infighting. I loved Harry Browne, but he was a little too 'businessman', and that Ron Paul guy was a REPUBLICAN.
All that changed in 2008 as it did for so many. Better late than never.
Thanks for that lovely piece of history in this clip.

    1. I love Murray Rothbard but his claim that the Keynesians were "dead from the neck up" after their policy failures in the 1970's and 1980's because they had no answer to rising inflation and unemployment was a bit premature. Notwithstanding Rothbard's statement that the Keynesians couldn't inject money and subtract money at the same time, that is exactly what they did. Through inflation they subtracted money from the average citizen and through selective government spending injected it into crony businesses. Add in a little statistical manipulation and mainstream measurements fail to reveal we are still suffering inflation and unemployment.
