US Inflation Since 1775

Note well: Although Paul Krugman frets about deflation. There has been no deflation since his birth in 1953.

  1. Not to mention the massive inflation required to soak up all the productivity gains occurring over those years. CPI only reflects the visible tip of that iceburg.

  2. It would be great to see that graph vs. historical events that would have driven up the inflation. I see the Civil War, War of 1812, Revolutionary War, etc. During typical prosperous peaceful times however it looks like deflation (until 1913 of course...)

  3. Are we talking money supply or prices? Credit contracted in 2008. Credit is the biggest component of the money supply.
