Median US Household Income for Various Ethnic Groups

#HardWorkMatters

Via NYT:

There are some black and Hispanic groups in America that far outperform some white and Asian groups. Immigrants from many West Indian and African countries, such as Jamaica, Ghana, and Haiti, are climbing America’s higher education ladder, but perhaps the most prominent are Nigerians. Nigerians make up less than 1 percent of the black population in the United States, yet in 2013 nearly one-quarter of the black students at Harvard Business School were of Nigerian ancestry; over a fourth of Nigerian-Americans have a graduate or professional degree, as compared with only about 11 percent of whites.

  1. I'm currently getting my MBA at a school that isn't elite, but is ranked typically in the #15 - 30 range. In my graduating class, we only have three students from Africa, and all three are Nigerian. Many of the African-Americans we have also trace their descent to Nigeria. Wonder what the deal is there...

Nigerians are not sitting in their couch waiting for their 40 acres and mule they were promised...

    2. Exactly. Nigerian students are hard working and disciplined. Do NOT confuse them with AfAms- they get very upset when you confuse them with black Americans.

  2. Read the NYT comments to this article for a good laugh. The lefties are taking issue with the article's assertion that higher income equates to success, when in their view qualitative factors like happiness, fulfillment are success. While I don't disagree with them in defining true success as more of a feeling than a measure of income alone, but then that would mean their entire argument about the ill effects of income inequality are completely bogus.
