Will Theresa May Leave the US With the Shirt Off Trump's Back and His Pants?

British Prime Minister Theresa May
D.C. insider and good friend, Michael Boland, founder of Dome Advisors, says, "Yes":
This Friday, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May, travels to the White House. Rumor is she wants the president’s participation in a bilateral trade agreement to gain an economic boost for the UK and leverage against the EU.

This woman is formidable. When the UK voted to leave the European Union, PM David Cameron resigned. Theresa emerged as the consensus choice to move into Number 10 by the dominant Conservative party despite her own support to remain in the EU.

Why? She is seen as a leader who can accomplish the complicated and difficult task of “brexiting” better than any of the men who launched and won that referendum...
Is [Trump] completely vulnerable to manipulation by a smart, determined, well-prepared woman? Yes.

The art of a deal with Theresa May can deliver approval and respect. Whatever it is that she wants in return, I’m betting she gets it.

  1. Similar concept to The Economist cartoon (https://www.facebook.com/TheEconomist/photos/a.10150279872209060.361054.6013004059/10155017409004060/?type=3&theater)

My only comment is this: why assume that any "trade deal" will have a winner and a loser. I get why The Economist doesn't know any better, but I would hope this is a great opportunity to show that a real free trade agreement, there would be no shirts or pants to steal, only 2 parties that have both won something.

  2. The UK isn't in a great bargaining position. Trump may be illiterate regarding comparative advantage, but I suspect you're wrong about this. Of course Trump "winning" likely means I'm losing.
