Stockman: Trump Has It Upside Down on Defense Spending

Former director of the Office of Management and Budget for President Reagan, David Stockman, correctly comments that Trump has it upside-down on defense spending. It is not that allies are not spending enough on defense it is that the US spends too much.

He provides this Chart of the Day:

  1. And some "non-interventionists" took Trumps complaint allies don't spend enough on “defense” to mean he might/would end NATO.

  2. I don't know where I read it, but Trump's increas in defense spending has quite probably less to do with his view on military strength needed, and more with satisfying some important stake holders that he needs to stay in power safely.

You cannot piss off everyone in the deep state. It is always good to have the military on your side when in power. I would love to hear RW's take on that view.
