Trump Says He Wants to Install a 'Welfare Wall'

Now here is something I can applaud President Trump on. It is something I have called for in several posts. The building of a "welfare wall," which prevents immigrants from being eligible for welfare,

Trump said at a rally on Wednesday evening that new immigrants should not be able to receive welfare benefits for at least five years after coming to the United States.

"That's why I believe the time has come for new immigration rules which say those seeking admission into our country must be able to support themselves financially and should not use welfare for a period of at least five years," Trump said during a campaign-style rally at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Of course, they should never be eligible for welfare and welfare should be ended in its entirety but this is a solid step in the right direction.

  1. This IMO is one of his few great ideas. It would eliminate one of the biggest objections to immigration while also decreasing the per-immigrant cost, which would make it easier to allow more people in.

The vast majority of immigrants come to the US for the economic opportunity rather than government welfare, so they probably wouldn't even care all that much. Those who do would probably be among the least bad to disincentivize. Seems like a win-win, so it probably won't happen.

That's already law, Robert. Legal residents cannot receive welfare for at least five years. Visa holders cannot receive welfare at all. El Trumpo is bamboozling you all once again. He's a liar and a cheat.

He also promised to turn the wall into a green energy boondoggle. The same wall that "Mexico" (i.e lines on a map) was going to pay, presumably. He claims because that would make it more affordable to "Mexico" (again, the lines on a map). So much for "... and Mexico will pay for it!" Yippee!

Trumpistas eat all that up line, hook and sinker, because they want to believe. Believe. Believe.

    1. The average family headed by an immigrant costs the taxpayer $6000 in welfare benefits. The more immigrants, the higher the cost to the taxpayer.

      Liar.

--- The more immigrants, the higher the cost to the taxpayer.---

You could use the very same proposition to argue against having children.

But what can one expect from Trumpistas? Logical consistency? Pasha!

By the way, the "immigrant-headed household" is a statistical trick played on the mathematically challenged. Barron Trump is the son of an immigrant, but since Melania is not "head of a household" then her and her son's "costs" are not taken into account by the anti-immigrant zealots at CIS and Heritage, who come up with these bogus statistics. Yet an immigrant who shacks up with an American welfare queen and her kids? Why, that makes him the "head of the household" ipso facto!

      Trumpistas are pathetic.
