"Libertarian" Peter Thiel Defends Trump Tariffs (Sort Of)

Peter Thiel has no idea what he is talking about.

Where does he get this idea that trade flows should only occur in a given way?

Why should trade deals between countries be negotiated rather than simply open trade?

He thinks this is about "game theory"? He's a Trumpian central planning mercantilist.

Hey Peter, Listen to this.

  1. Truly terrible on almost every topic.

It's interesting how these interviews are always with producers, who of course are mostly for state interference in their favor, through protective tariffs, monopoly licenses, IP, etc. Just once I'd like to see a consumers' advocate interviewed to talk about the impact of protectionism on consumers.

  2. I’m gonna enact a tariff on any goods imported into my household from my grocer from now on, and make my kids and wife pay extra. After all, there’s this galling trade imbalance between us: in the last 15 years or so, I’ve bought, like, a million percent more from Kroger than they ever bought from me. I'm getting screwed! Unfair trade, I say!
