The People's Republic of San Francisco is Considering a Ban on Free Cafeterias for Workers

The San Francisco government just hates any economic structure that isn't planned by them--even if it means free meals for workers!

Meanwhile, they keep raising the minimum wage which makes it very difficult for restaurants to survive in the People's Republic

  1. It's not just the "free" food at company cafes ... these SF restaurant owners can't even compete honestly against food trucks, roadside food vendors, etc.

Besides, the food at those companies is not really "free". The company pays for the food. Some of those companies actually contract with local restaurants for catering, instead of cooking all the food on site every day.

The "free" food is largely a hidden incentive for the employees to minimize the disruptions due to lunch break by grabbing something quickly from the on-site cafe.

    1. If they cannot compete then close. The market will choose your fate.

  3. The food isn't free though. It's paid for through productivity. It's a cheap way for companies to squeeze more out of the workforce.

    1. I work for a company that supplies free lunch to all 1k employees here in Las colinas (DFW) Texas. I take some of the remains at the end for dinner as they throw away a lot of it. Its a great way to avoid all the time and energy into planning lunches.

  4. LOL. The left wants free housing, free healthcare and free college but not "free" food.
