Senate Passes Stopgap Spending Bill That Would Avert Shutdown; Anti-Immigrant Conservatives Explode

The spending shall continue.

The Senate passed a stopgap spending bill on Wednesday night that would keep the government funded through Feb. 8.

The bill is expected to pass the House on Thursday and be sent to President Trump before the midnight Friday deadline when funding would start to dry up for various government agencies.

The bill does not include the $5 billion Trump has demanded for a border wall. Trump declared last week he would be "proud to shut down the government" over the $5 billion he's demanded for the wall.

The anti-immigrant right is beside itself.  Trump had promised a battle and shutdown if any spending bill did not include funds for a wall. A wall that Trump is also curiously claiming Mexico is paying for via the new USMCA trade deal.

Representative Mark Meadows, Republican of North Carolina and the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, said Trump was doing himself “major” political damage by relenting in the wall fight.

“They’re very concerned that he’s not fulfilling his campaign promise,” Meadows said of voters, according to the New York Times, describing the hundreds of phone calls his office received on Wednesday protesting the president’s apparent retreat. “They believe it’s a promise that the president said he would keep."

The anti-immigrant, political commentator, Ann Coulter denounced Trump as a “gutless president.”

Of course, central planning of immigration is a nutty idea, as I have discussed.

If you think his claim is curious, read about poor Sarah Huckabee's confusing and pitiful attempt at explaining how the USMCA is supposed to bring the 'revenue' necessary to pay the Border Slats... I mean, the Border Wall, or Border Chicken Wire or whatever DJT calls it now:

  3. 5 million has been raised by 85,000 to build the was in three days from the gofundme. Agree or disagree with the wall this shows that large scale security would work in a voluntary society.
