Of course, the failure of Trumpcare is now being conflated with the failure to simply repeal O-crony-care, which is probably here forever now as Trump is "done" with healthcare. Republicans, including Boehner (who knew the deal weeks ago), and their cronies in the insurance industry are laughing over drinks right now. What a complete farce.
Part of me thinks this was the plan from the beginning. Campaign on repealing Obamacare, get the power, then craft an awful bill, kill said bill and then shrug shoulders saying "We tried"
Agreed. Republican opposition was and is simply theater. That much is very clear now. The insurance companies, who are the primary beneficiaries of O-Crony-care (their lawyers wrote it), own both parties lock, stock, and barrel. Plus, the gov't loves the extra revenue from the tax.
Yeah something definitely seems fishy here. The bill was so obviously not a repeal of Obamacare at all, for one thing. I'm thinking that they realized that if Obamacare is repealed, then there will be some short term pain, even if there is long term gain, and they know the public is filled with doofuses who don't know anything about the long term, and so they just came up with a BS bill that changes nothing fundamental and put forward a half hearted effort with no negotiation even though they have known for a time that a lot of Republicans they need to pass it would not vote for it. This whole thing has stunk to high heaven from the very start.
Reminds me of the Contract With America, which could be described very much like the current situation with the words "plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose".
The bill was better than the current situation. It eliminated the mandate, abolished various taxes, increased the HSA amounts and ended the subsidies. And it would have lowered my premiums. Tonight Killary is tweeting her delight.
Scott Adams believes the narrative has now shifted from Trump is Hitler to Trump is incompetent. A good thing from his persuasion filter standpoint. I would tend to agree.
