Geithner to Tokyo

Our globe trotting Treasury chief to visit Tokyo and Singapore.

The Treasury today announced that Geithner will visit Tokyo, Japan on, November 10-11, 2009 before traveling to Singapore to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meeting of Finance Ministers on November 12, 2009

While in Tokyo, the Secretary will meet with senior government officials.

At APEC, Geithner will meet with Finance Ministers to discuss a range of issues including, according to the Treasury related to "...public-private models for the development of large-scale infrastructure projects."

  1. Jeremy Grantham lashed Geithner in his October report:

    The Other Teflon Men

Larry Summers, with a Financial Times bully pulpit, had done little bullying and blown no warning whistles of impending doom back in 2006 and 2007. And, famously, in earlier years as Treasury Secretary
he had encouraged (I hope inadvertently) wild and reckless financial behavior by helping to beat back attempts to regulate some of the new and most dangerous instruments.

Timothy Geithner, in turn, sat in the very engine room of the USS Disaster and helped steer her onto the rocks. And there are several
others (discussed in the 4Q 2008 Letter). You know who you are. All promoted!

  2. Public-private models for large scale infrastructure? Funny, Neil Wolin was promoting the same thing in Africa.
