New York Fed Cancels Tours of Its Gold Vaults

Germans are making noises about wanting to audit the gold that is supposedly held  for the German government by the New York Federal Reserve Bank in lower Manhattan.  The Fed had been giving regular tours of the vault.

The New York Fed is in evacuation Zone C in downtown Manhattan. It wasn't flooded. Zone C residents are told to expect storm-surge flooding only from major, category 3 or 4 hurricanes that hit the New York harbor. Yet, the Fed is cancelling tours of its vaults indefinitely “due to the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.”

  1. They probably just need a little privacy while they stack a new shipment of gold plated tungsten bars into Germany's section of the vault, and stamp them with the serial numbers the German auditors will expect to see.

  2. Maybe they could show a video tour in their visiting center instead? No CGI, promise!

  3. Come on: It was audited just yesterday...Oh wait, gee, that audit was done by Timmy Geithner. Hmm, it involved about 6 employees and they tested 68 ounces and they didn't look at the paper trail.

Well, I mean okay, so there was an audit back in Truman's day.

  4. Hurricane Sandy? Indefinitely?

In modern America why bother with excuses, the Govt. does whatever it wants, whenever it wishes. Surprised they dont' simply say no gold audit inspections of the NY Fed, West Point, Ft. Knox, F-Off and that is that.

Ever see movie representations of the bank runs of late 1929 the early 1930's? They showed angry depositors outside banks screaming where is my money.

Wonder when country diplomats will line up outside the NY Fed, West Point, Ft. Knox and scream where's the gold? Answer, they will not, they have been instructed it is not really there and play along(which they will).
