A Greater Killer Than Rifles: Should These Be Banned?

Lifted from the comments. Bob Roddis writes:
About 500 people a year are murdered with rifles, about the same number of people who die from falling out of bed. Typical statist insisting upon statist solutions to problems that don't even exist (like market failure?).
According to the Center for Disease Control, falling out of bed accounts for 1.8 million emergency room visits, over 400 thousand hospital admissions and 450 deaths each year. According to the FBI, last year only 358 people were murdered by rifles.

  1. The obvious solution is for Obama to use his drones to look in everyone's window and make sure that everyone is sitting and sleeping on the floor. Under penalty of law.

    1. "Honey, a drone at our window!", he said suddenly looking up from the floor. Crunch. "Arghhh! I just kinked my neck!! Good thing we've got Obamacare!"

News flash: No looking out windows at drones. Under penalty of law.

  2. According to the FBI, 745 deaths are attributed to "Personal weapons (hands, fists, feet, etc.)". This is twice as many deaths attributed to rifles.

The lesson is clear: hands, fists, feet etc must be outlawed.

  3. Thanks for the enlightening stats. And I wonder how many of the 358 rifle murders involved victims who were threatening to violate private property rights? (I think it's safe to assume that a very small number of the falling-out-bed deaths could be attributed to such a cause...Although from what I've heard about nursing home philandering, perhaps a few bed-eviction deaths in there?)

    1. 358... I wonder how that compares to the numbers of People killed while getting in and out of a bath tub?

  5. Life is risk. Let anyone who wants to own a gun do so, and deal with some of those risks.

The good folks will take care of murderers in the act, right quick; I'm not in support of extra-judicial killing, just self-defense.

  8. To be fair there are bed's in pretty much every home. Everyone gets into them at their own risk. if you can't get out of a bed without killing yourself thats just natural selection we have to deal with beds. Guns on the other hand are rarely the cause of death for the owner, they usually are used by someone to kill someone else so the idea is that you get rid of the guns so it's not as easy to kill other people you know if you're like a psychopath or something. when's the last time you read a story about someone killing someone with a bed.
