The Truth about the Collapse of the Soviet Union

Below is the video of my Henry Hazlitt Memorial Lecture delivered on Thursday March, 21, 2013 at the Ludwig von Mises Institute in Auburn, Alabama.

I am pleased to note that the great historian Ralph Raico after viewing the clip sent me an email that said:

Bob,
I've just listened to your talk on the history of the Soviet Union. It is magnificent! The amount of scholarship is overwhelming. You did a truly great job.
Regards,
Ralph
The feedback at the conference was also quite favorable, so I am going to put together an expanded hard copy version of the lecture that will include more detail, especially on the Yeltsin and Putin era, and footnotes that reference all the quotes and data that I used in my speech.

  1. Bob, listening to this lecture I couldn't help but wonder if you've read Antony Sutton. It seems as if you have. His research in this area is indispensable.

  2. Small nitpick. The GRU was Soviet military intelligence. I think you confused it with the NKVD which was the predecessor to the KGB.

  4. Great Speech, you look different than I expected.
Kinda like a cross between Robert Deniro and Judge Napolitano.

    1. Yes! I thought I was the only one that saw some similarity to Napolitano!

  5. Another detail concerning Stalin's early career that can be scrutinized, is that he might have worked for the Nobel brother's Branobel (The Petroleum Production Company Nobel Brothers, Limited) as a greaser at a derrick in Baku. Might be something worth proving/disproving.

  7. Very cool. An original perspective, and illuminating. And, "Its about ideas"

  8. Ditto on the Napolitano comments. I've never seen Bob in such an outfit before. He could host his own FOX show looking like that.

  9. Absolutely fantastic speech, ranking up there with the NY Fed Speech. And yes, it's good to finally have a face to associate with the content of EPJ that I have been studiously reading for longer than I can remember.

  10. I finally just got around to this. Absolutely fascinating speech.

One that could and probably should be turned into a book, though I know Bob has his hands full on the natural rights and IP stuff already.

Did a write up of this on my website. More people need this information.
