Possible GOP Opponent to Mitch McConnell Books Airtime; Rand Paul is Puzzled

An emerging conservative challenger to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has reserved airtime in Kentucky starting next week, according to multiple media-tracking sources, reports Politico.

Matt Bevin, a hedge fund manager based in Louisville, KY, has previously floated the prospect of a primary bid against McConnell. Now, two sources say Bevin has booked ads in the Louisville market; a Republican source said “Matt Bevin for Senate” has also begun reserving time in Bowling Green as well.

On the heels of this news, Rand Paul says he is clueless as to why McConnell isn't getting conservative support:

WHAS11 in Kentucky reports:
A primary challenge would have to be mounted without the support of Kentucky tea party favorite, Sen. Rand Paul (R), who is  endorsing McConnell.

"I haven't had any discussions with (Bevin) or others about it," Paul said on Wednesday, "other than to say that I have heard the same rumors."

Paul was asked why McConnell appears to lack support among tea party members.

"You know, I don't know if I have an answer, really," Paul responded.

  1. Matt Bevin is my brother. Personally I am a paleo-conservative/libertarian/anarchist "mutt" . over the years we have had numerous conversations about the state of this country. Although we don't always agree on everything ( he tends to err more on the conservative republican end of the spectrum) we both agree that the country is faced with huge problems - aided and abetted by individuals like Mitch McConell. We also agree that the solution to these problems is limited government not party politics.
