RIZZO: The Chicago School of Economics is Dying

Economist Mario Rizzo, who earned his PhD in economics from the University of Chicago, recently commented on the collapse of the Chicago School of economics.

The Chicago-tradition as created by Milton Friedman, George Stigler, Gary Becker, Harold Demsetz, Ronald Coase, Yale Brozen, and others is dying. The new generation of economists at Chicago is not much different from economists anywhere else. There are some exceptions, of course. Unfortunately, the Chicago-school generation did not adequately reproduce itself at Chicago. The energy behind that approach is gone.
