OMG: Pope Francis Preparing Tome On the Environment

The Hill reports:
Pope Francis is drafting an encyclical on the environment.

According to multiple media reports, the Vatican announced Friday that the pope is in the early stages of a work on “the ecology of man.”

The pope adopted his name from St. Francis of Assisi, known for his love of nature and the environment. Francis has previously spoken about the exploitation of the earth’s natural resources and urged followers to “respect for the whole of creation and the protection of our environment.”
Given this Pope's track record of failure to understand basic economics, there is little doubt that his views on the environment will very likely include a heavy does of support for government central planning rather than a call for respect for and advancement of property rights as a solution to environmental problems.

    1. "(H)ave you looked at the current economic condition of planet Earth EPJ?" Well, that's the point. EPJ looks at current economic conditions and their causes every day. Pope Francis' track record has been to consistently promote the very policies that have been the source of today's problems.

However, I believe that the primary issue is not that Pope Francis fails to understand basic economics, although he does certainly fail on that point. I think that the larger problem is that he cares more about promoting anti-capitalistic policies than he does about actually improving the situation. Jesuits are generally extremely well educated people. It is hard to believe that his ignorance of economics is not intentional.
