Libertarian Candidate for Governor Arrested For Gathering Signatures

Ben Swann reports:
According to the Minnesota Libertarian Party, Candidates of minor political parties in Minnesota need to gather 2000 signatures during a two week period that ends June 3rd to be listed on the ballot for state-wide races. That was what Holbrook was attempting to do when he was approached by five local park police officers.

“We were sitting in the parking lot of the park and the five volunteers who were with me were starting to sort our literature. A park police officer came over to us and asked what we were doing. I told them that we were going to gather petition signatures and he said ‘You can’t do that here.’ We know that we can we are legally allowed.” says Holbrook.

Because Holbrook and the LP volunteers were aware of the law, they explained their right to be at the park. Within 10 minutes another four officers were on the scene. Holbrook and those with him began recording the confrontation with police.

“The officers asked for my ID which I refused because I had committed no crime. He ordered that we stop filming him with our cell phone cameras which he said was illegal. He then grabbed me, twisted my arm and smashed me against his vehicle.”

Holbrook says that his shoulder was wrenched and injured and the handcuffs actually cut through the skin and Holbrook’s arm causing it to begin bleeding.

  1. Interesting. Jack-booted thugs, with no regard for law and order - even though they probably took an oath to preserve law and order or protect and serve (you get the picture) - violate the freedoms of peaceful, and, from the language of the article, law-abiding citizens. I wonder what the trumped up charges against these folks will be? Threats to officer safety?

And what's with the arcane MN law that informs those who want on the ballot that in order to do so they have to collect 2,000 signatures within a specific two week period? Looks like they (i.e. incumbents) don't want any competition.

  2. There are a few good cops, but I've noticed that most are just fat and stupid. I have nothing but distain for the oppressive government and its ignorant enforcers. This disdain is spreading among the populous. I wouldn't want to be a cop these days. Unlike their very wealthy masters, they're on the front lines and will receive the brunt of the righteous anger. And fat and stupid won't survive when that happens.

    1. No, there are no good cops. A cop is a lazy cowardly parasite who wants to wear a gun in a world where others are not allowed to wear guns and wants those others to be forced to feed him by means of an extortion racket called taxation while he cruises around doing nothing all day except watching the world go by. There is no such thing as a good cop.

    2. Careful John. you'll get Anon (who thinks he's Mr. Christian) telling you that "government is here to stay" so shut up and take it up the ass like a good little slave.

Oh hi! That's a nice strawman you have there. Government is here to stay, however. Anarchists of all flavors are dreamers in that sense; the "Christian" ones are especially disobedient to their God. They're really not much different than central planners in that both groups put a premium on fallible human reasoning to solve the world's problems, as it were. What both groups fail to understand is that there's a higher power holding the reins, and He tells you to submit to the authorities so long as you aren't disobeying any of His commands. Where there's a conflict and you choose to obey God over man, you have two options: flee man's punishment or accept what comes your way. You do not fight back, period. Your obedience to God, not to man, is counted toward your righteousness. And any Christian should be focused more on that thing called "eternity" than the passing shadow that is your present lifetime. This life is a trial and will determine your ultimate destination. If there's one thing for certain, it's that there will be tribulation. The only thing that matters is in what manner you respond to said tribulation, either in obedience to God or disobedience to Him.

    4. Yes, we know you think you're a fortune teller.

"...the "Christian" ones are especially disobedient to their God."

Only in your own deluded mind.

"They're really not much different than central planners in that both groups put a premium on fallible human reasoning to solve the world's problems, as it were."

And you talk of strawmen? LOL! No genius, we DON'T put faith in man. If we did we'd INSIST on the tyrants you seem to have on problem with. It's BECAUSE we don't trust hmuan beings with power that we place NO FAITH in their ability to "lead a nation of people". Can't you read? But I guess if you prefer Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Genghis Khan, Caligula, and many other sick sick, tyrants that's your business. You can take it up the ass if you want but don't arrogantly sit here and pretend like you know what's best for everyone.

So you have on problem obeying someone who would send people to gas chambers, bomb their families, placing them in gulags. you pal, are a COWARD. What a pathetic little pussy. You want to sit on your cowardly ass and do nothing. Fine. Move to North Korea. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to take a completely obedient little slave like you. Tyrants just LOVE that kind of thinking. Sorry, but the truth is just a LITTLE more important to me than blind obedience to some tyrant.

Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin are God's ministers. LOL!!! Seriously? You tell that to what was left of the 42 million people Hitler and Stalin murdered. Quit being a coward and come join reality. It's not pretty but reality never is.

      Go troll somewhere else.

    5. Wow, the anonymous anti-Christian troll is so wrong it makes me sick. People that use Jesus to defend their evil will burn in Hell.

How can he defend the government when the evils are so obvious.

Anti-Christians like him will face judgment...and it won't be pretty. Blasphemy is a mortal sin, and the anti-Christians that defend the government will burn.

    1. That is one of the most sickening crimes Will Grigg has covered. The police chief defending the permanent scarring and abuse of a small child...just sick. Kinda like the anti-Christian anon above.

      Cops are thugs with badges.

    1. It should be an immediate prison sentence. There's no reason to let pigs in uniforms to enjoy more rights than the rest of us.

    2. Oh, I'm not doubting that in the least. Yes it seems so over the top but so did the crap we go through now to people 50 years ago.

    3. You cannot piss or shit without a permit - the permit is required to install the toilet, plumbing, septic or sewer lines, etc.

In Portland if the cops even THINK you peed in the bushes they will kill you. You can't make this stuff up: http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2010/07/outside_consultants_find_gaps.html
