HOT Trump To Visit Mexico Tomorrow

Donald Trump is planning to meet with the president of Mexico in Mexico tomorrow before delivering his speech on immigration later in the day back in the United States.

UPDATE

Donald Trump is considering jetting to Mexico City on Wednesday for a meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, just hours before he delivers a high-stakes speech in Arizona to clarify his views on immigration policy, according to people in the United States and Mexico familiar with the discussions.

The possibility, which was hatched in recent days by Trump and his campaign advisers, comes after Trump has wavered for weeks on whether he would continue to hold his hard-line positions on the central and incendiary issue of his campaign, in particular his call to deport an estimated 11 million immigrants who are living in the United States illegally.

Peña Nieto invited both Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to visit Mexico last Friday, his office said in a statement provided to The Washington Post on Tuesday night. Although no meetings have been confirmed, the statement said, both campaigns received the invitations “on good terms.”

Trump, sensing an opportunity, decided over the weekend to accept the invitation and push for a visit this week, according to the people familiar with the discussions.

The people informed of Trump’s plans spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity surrounding the matter. They said late Tuesday that talks between the Trump campaign and Mexican officials were ongoing, with Trump interested in going but logistics and security concerns still being sorted out.

It's done, Trump confirms.

UPDATE 3

He's taking Rudy!

From Polizette:

It is expected that Trump advisor and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions, along with high-ranking Mexican officials, will attend the meeting.

Jokes aside, I always find it incredible that people would be so gullible as to think that Trump is really going to build a wall and that "Mexico" (a collectivist notion) will pay for it. Of course the whole situation became a huge joke for us with brains the moment El Trumpo started toying with the idea of confiscating people's remittances as if that were legal, or as if immigrants were stupid and simply use other means to send money to their folks. But for his surrogates and the Trumpistas, he's serious about that. You just have to hear them jabbering about that wet dream on Fox News.

    2. That would be "as if immigrants were stupid enough not to use other methods to send money to their folks."

  3. Trump's twitter handle, @realDonaldTrump, comes across as funny, because, in Spanish, "real" means "royal". Reminds me of the old joke about when Ford tried to sell their Nova model in South America, apparently not realizing that "no va" means "doesn't go".

─ Trump's twitter handle, @realDonaldTrump, comes across as funny, because, in Spanish, "real" means "royal".─

It also means "real". Sometimes people use "verdadero" which also means real or 'the real thing'.

─ Reminds me of the old joke about when Ford tried to sell their Nova model in South America, apparently not realizing that "no va" means "doesn't go". ─

It is indeed a joke because a) it is not true that people in South America and mexico joked about the Chevy Nova not going ("no va") since a lot of people back then knew a nova was an exploding star, and b) Ford didn't manufacture the Nova. GM did.

    1. Yes, I said it was a joke. I should have remembered it was a Chevy Nova, since my wife had one before we met, and loved it. My point, of course, is how easy it is to miscommunicate where multiple languages and cultures are involved. Or maybe it is not a miscommunication at all. Perhaps Trump considers himself to be American royalty.
