MAD: California Commission Votes to Require Rooftop Solar Panels on New Homes

Here's more in the way of loopy regulations out of California that completely defy an understanding of basic economics.

The California government is going to require solar panels on almost all new homes.

Most new homes built after Jan. 1, 2020, will be required to include solar systems as part of "energy-efficiency standards" adopted Wednesday by the California Energy Commission.

But, of course, if solar panels provided efficient energy, no such laws would be required by the government. It would occur automatically by builders and homebuyers who would want the cheapest way to energize a home.

The truth is that using solar panels is estimated to drive up the cost of building a house by around $10,000.

No doubt this regulation was pushed for by the crony solar panel industry, crazed climate-change fearmongers, and activists who would spend hours trying to figure out how to draw the supply and demand curve for air.

  3. Don't forget the law makers. They like expensive housing as it equals higher property taxes.
