Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Sunday that he strongly supports a federal mandate requiring citizens to buy health insurance.
Appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Gingrich said that he continues to advocate for a plan he first called for in the early 1990s as a Congressman, which requires every uninsured citizen to purchase or acquire health insurance.
Clueless Gingrich likened required healthcare to required auto insurance, but auto insurance is mostly required to protect against a driver damaging someone else's property or being, not one's own. (Aside from the debate over whether government should be involved in auto insurance coercion and control of roads, in the first place.)
Why shouldn't he? He is just taking the Republican party back to its regressive roots.

I did rather enjoy Gingrich declare on Meet the Press that he wasn't terribly interested in being president. I mean, I would have enjoyed watching it if I could be bothered to watch Meet the Press. Thinking on this reminded me of something P.J. O'Rourke said: "The difference between American parties is actually simple. Democrats are in favor of higher taxes to pay for greater spending, while Republicans are in favor of greater spending, for which the taxpayers will pay."
