Vargas being detained. |
This is a perfect example of the type of border "control" that wouldn't happen if private property and private transactions were respected. He has a place to live and a way to support himself, which as far as I am concerned is all that should be required of an immigrant, and the government should stay out of it.
The one problem with immigration is when immigrants attempt to enter the US and gain cash and services provided by the government, from unemployment payments to medical services. The cash and services should be eliminated for current US citizens, never mind immigrants.
All this said, while it is fine for Vargas to stay in the US because he has a place to stay and can support himself, it appears that Vargas is a champion of immigrants, which from his perspective means they should not only be allowed in the country but provided government cash and services. A very bad idea.

UPDATE
Border patrol has released Vargas.
I JUST finished reading about this.
ReplyDeleteSo, do they deport a Pulitzer Prize winner who has a documentary on CNN, thus bringing more attention to the millions of undocumented (what a statist word) or quietly let him go?
What about the Big Business/Chamber of Commerce sorts that socialize the cost of labor onto the taxpayer, and privatize the profits?
ReplyDeleteCome on, Bob, finish the thought. Rent seeking is part of the Austrian lexicon.
