Why Youth Should Be Alarmed About ObamaCare

I haven't seen any coverage on one point in President Obama's speech that should alarm every young person in America: In his speech this week on health care the President said:

Now, even if we provide these affordable options, there may be those – particularly the young and healthy – who still want to take the risk and go without coverage. There may still be companies that refuse to do right by their workers. The problem is, such irresponsible behavior costs all the rest of us money. If there are affordable options and people still don't sign up for health insurance, it means we pay for those people's expensive emergency room visits. If some businesses don't provide workers health care, it forces the rest of us to pick up the tab when their workers get sick, and gives those businesses an unfair advantage over their competitors. And unless everybody does their part, many of the insurance reforms we seek – especially requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions – just can't be achieved.

That's why under my plan, individuals will be required to carry basic health insurance – just as most states require you to carry auto insurance.

In other words, the President wants to force everyone to have health care, even those who he admits are "young and healthy."

He throws out a bugaboo about emergency care costs, but if he is forcing insurance, why can't he just say, instead, "If you don't have insurance, you are pickikng up your own emergency room tab."

The real thought by the President is not the emergency room visit, its the cost of providing care to the masses. He spills the beans on why he wants youth coerced into buying health insurance when he says:

And unless everybody does their part, many of the insurance reforms we seek – especially requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions – just can't be achieved.

What's all this "unless everybody does their part" all about? There's a hidden agenda to force the youth to pay for the care of the elderly. Otherwise, the President wouldn't be concerned about the youth "doing their part."

Think about this. There is some kind of scheme somewhere in the bill that is going to jack up the rates for youth, otherwise their participation wouldn't have anything to do with insurance companies payments for people who have current existing conditions. But the president says it does, I repeat:

And unless everybody does their part, many of the insurance reforms we seek – especially requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions – just can't be achieved.

This tells me there is going to be nowhere near a free market in health insurance. If there was, insurance companies would offer a very low rate to the youth, since most of them won't have any serious health problems for decades. But, if this is somehow intermingled with those who currently have pre-existing conditions, and the President indicates it does, then there won't be any free market for youth as far as health insurance. Health insurance companies that attempt to offer cheap insurance to youth won't be allowed to do so, since it appears that the "insurance" the youth will be required to buy will also somehow be tied in with bailing out the health of the elderly who have pre-existing conditions.

In other words, there is more than just a requirement for the youth to buy insurance, there is a hidden tax that will force the youth to pay for part of the coverage required for those with pre-existing conditions. Of course, this will all end up running through a huge health bureaucracy that will siphon off much of the hidden tax on the youth, and little of it will end up with the elderly (and that's part of why they will need Death Panels).

Bottom line, the Obama plan will be very expensive for everyone in the short term, including the youth. It will reduce care for everyone and ultimately result in the death of creativity and innovation in medical care. By the time today's youth get old, health care will be in a worse mess than social security is now.
