What's the Treasury (and the Justice Department) Hiding?

Someting really smells here. This is a shocking report out of Bloomberg, on the Treasury response to a Freedom of Information Act request :

The late Bloomberg News reporter Mark Pittman asked the U.S. Treasury in January 2009 to identify $301 billion of securities owned by Citigroup Inc. that the government had agreed to guarantee. He made the request on the grounds that taxpayers ought to know how their money was being used.

More than 20 months later, after saying at least five times that a response was imminent, Treasury officials responded with 560 pages of printed-out e-mails -- none of which Pittman requested. They were so heavily redacted that most of what’s left are everyday messages such as “Did you just try to call me?” and “Monday will be a busy day!”

None of the documents answers Pittman’s request for “records sufficient to show the names of the relevant securities” or the dates and terms of the guarantees. Even so, the U.S. government considers the collection of e-mails a partial response to an official request under the federal Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA. The Justice Department in July cited an increase in such responses as evidence that “more information is being released” under the law.

  1. Pittman's progeny insist he had a history of heart problems and that he died of such. Regardless, the public's loss was every corrupt regulator's gain upon his untimely death. I suspect the roboforger mess would have gone mainstream much sooner had he been alive. Having said that, Ivry does good work. Keep pressing that Fed FOIA!

  2. Pittman mysteriously "died" at a relatively young age shortly after the Federal Court ruled in his favor and against the banksters.

Nothing to see here, move along.

  3. sweep America of the dirty double dealing crooks in and of the banks and their lawyers and let's go forward with clearing out of all liars, deceitful and betraying collectivists with wet dreams of sitting on top of the world and calling it his own. I am convinced the whole rotten system should be ignored and flushed twice. There is NObody in anybody's government you or I can trust. They are all tainted with death/destruction and immobility. But, that's just my opinion.
