Bill Clinton Made $13.4M in 2011 Speech Fees

It pays to be an elitist power player.

The former president had his most lucrative year yet in 2011, CNN reports, earning $13.4 million in speech fees -- exceeding his previous record by some 25%.

"The former president's previous record for speech income earned in one year was in 2010, when he earned $10.7 million for 52 events," CNN reported. "His speech earnings last year were nearly double the $7.5 million he earned in 2009."

All total, Clinton has earned $89 million from paid speeches since leaving the White House in January 2001.

Clinton must disclose his fees because of Hillary's position at the State Department.

CNN continues:
Clinton delivered 54 paid speeches in 2011, roughly the same as his 2010 workload, but the marked increase in income can be credited to six overseas events that earned him the largest single paydays of his career.

The most lucrative was a November speech in Hong Kong to Swedish-based telecom giant Ericsson -- $750,000. Clinton also earned $700,000 for a March speech to a local newspaper publishing company in Lagos, Nigeria, and $550,000 for a November speech to a business forum in Shanghai, China. He earned $500,000 apiece for three events in Austria and Holland in May and in the United Arab Emirates in December.

Prior to 2011, the most Clinton had earned from a single event was $525,000 for a 2008 speech in Edmonton, Alberta. ...

Almost half of the former president's speech income last year, $6.1 million, came from 16 speeches delivered in 11 other countries, ranging from Canada to Saudi Arabia. The remainder was earned in 38 domestic speeches delivered in nine states and the District of Columbia

  1. A long way for a hick from Arkansas.

Obama can't wait. I bet secretly he wanted to lose the election. He's only an empty suit anyway. This president job is the ticket to life-long riches and parties. Elections are becoming like lotteries to lift up a power worshipper to the elite.

  3. This is akin to a murderer profiting from publishing his gory actions. With Clinton, this looks dopy in comparison due to the extramarital affairs, stained dress, and cigar etc.

    1. Come on. You must understand he's not being paid for giving speeches now.

These people paying him are straw man pass throughs settling accounts for clients he performed services for when he was in a position to get things done for them.

  8. As I recall, Richard Nixon discussed speaking fees in his 1990 book "In the Arena: A Memoir of Victory, Defeat, and Renewal". My recollection is that he refused such fees because his predecessors did not accept them, and he did not want to be the first to accept them.

I am not sure if this changed between 1990 and his death in 1994, but I do not believe it did.

Nixon's is often tossed under the bus for the corruption that brought down his administration. However, I have to give him credit when he refused to accept fees for speeches.

When I see that Clinton has earned $89 million in just under 12 years, I have to wonder who is (or was) more corrupt. I always got the impression that Clinton would just ooze under doors if he didn't have that bone in his back. I'm not sure I'd say the same about Nixon....

  9. Pretty good money for an admitted perjurer who lost his law license for several years because of lying under oath. I also remember him pardoning the (at the time) biggest tax dodger in US history before Bubba left office after that guy donated a huge sum to Clinton's post-Presidential office.

How often do all the leftists railing about paying their fair share bring that up? It was sort of like how Bubba was pretty much personally responsible for ending all of the sexual harassment talk by the feminists, ha ha!

  10. I just wonder exactly how many of his speeches were "arranged" by Hilary.
