Video of Big Brother's spy drone that can watch you from 17,500 ft

Big Brother has quite the powerful camera.

These are (for sure) the hallmark of a free society.

From Popular Science:
Curious as to how the Defense Department could be spying on you next? PBS checked in with DARPA about the latest in drone camera technology for the NOVA special "Rise of the Drones," including the world's highest-resolution camera.

Actually seeing the sensor on ARGUS-IS, or Autonomous Real-Time Ground Ubiquitous Surveillance Imaging System, is still classified, but the basics of how it works have been deemed fit for public consumption...

It can store a million terabytes of video a day, up to 5,000 hours of footage, so soon drones will not only be able to see everything that happens on the ground, but also keep that record.

  1. So.. How many bytes does it take to store the image of my middle finger extended?

    1. Oh, much bigger problem Capn. It can only see things down to 6 inches in length so we're all gonna have to get middle finger extensions. The good news however is that for many guys, they won't be able to tell your gender...

  2. Yes, yes a free society being created for you Yankees. You are all terrorists now. So enjoy and shop for clothing to match the occasion, to cloak like mini Klingon's, on Star Trek.

  4. Well at least the top two comments on the video are good:

    "Am I impressed...? Yes.

    Am I worried...? Yes"

"Hitler and Stalin would jizz them selves to death had they had acces to this tech"

If they're letting this stuff go public, imagine what theyre up to now. I bet theyre 40 years ahead of the technology the public knows of today.

  5. This is a waste, a fad, a predictable attempt for the power to be all powerful, the laws of reality be damned.

Not only are drones more expensive than widely recognized, especially in terms of networking and support cost. These cost alone preclude any worst case distopia, or at the least the mean any worse case distopia will be short lived.

Its also important to remember that when it comes to making sense of a complex and ever changing reality, too much information can be just as much of a hinderance as can too little. We will never have the complete picture, thank you heisenberg, and what ever picture we can formulate will soon be outdated, to the extent that it isnt already, This kind of technology only allows those who would make themselves omnipotent the illusion of omnipresence, a self deception which is bound to be self defeating.

Manned aircraft still has the advantage, the fantasy lives of futurist not with standing. So rwally, if the government (as if it were a monolith) does have bad intentions, and if they are emboldened to follow through on those intentions, I for one am nit to worried about them being ineffecient and delusional about it.

  6. Well, let's just hope a currency collapse will save us from this, otherwise I think we've already lost. Very disheartening video.

  7. Pretty sure that there is a typo there. The drone can store a million terabytes? Highly doubtful. If the US government has become so technologically advanced that they can store a million terabytes on a drone along with all of the other drone equipment, then we really don't have a chance.

  8. There can be teeny wireless network criminal dslrs specifically built to turn out to be obscured due to its buyer, but, there are a number pre-disguised Spy Camera Glasses that happen to be pre-created to every day researching regularly article available to buy. Eye glasses, arse packets, light bulbs, theodore teddy bears, environment fresheners, not to mention creative mirrors, Toxins detectors to illustrate. Which means dependant in the mandatory usage, you should purchase are actually pre-disguised equipment plus your areas to get.

  9. This is why the people should have access not only to "assault weapons" but to SAMs (surface to air missiles) such as the FIM-92 Stinger http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIM-92_Stinger

The right to revolt is delineated in the Declaration of Independence as a basic human right to self govern as they see fit, to alter or abolish and establish new forms as they wish. For this right to have any meaning standing armies must be abolished, the police must be de-militarized and the people should always outgun the government. In order for a totalitarian regime to exist the gov't must outgun the people. It is that simple.

  10. Very scary! You don't need cameras on every corner like in the UK. The ramifications of this are more Orwellian than a fascists wet dream.
