McConnell Stays Quiet As Congress Moves To Strike Syria

It's a tough one for Mitch "Hold your nose" McConnell. Forget principle, he has competing political pressures. Talking Points Memo reports:
Facing competing pressures as he fends off a conservative challenger for re-election, Mitch McConnell is steering clear so far of the debate over whether to attack Syria as a use of force resolution makes its way through Congress.

The Senate GOP leader is the only congressional leader who hasn’t yet taken a position as Congress advances legislation to authorize U.S. military force. House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) all support President Barack Obama’s call for action.

“I appreciate the President’s briefing today at the White House and would encourage him to continue updating the American people,” McConnell said Tuesday after he and other congressional leaders met with Obama and his national security team. “
