I can assure George Will as someone who entered college in 2006 that Barack Obama was not responsible for huge tuition bills and subsequent student loans that I have amassed. Obviously true points against government intervention in general are often only seen as partisan attacks by standard right wing conservatives placing the blame squarely on a Democratic president. I think this type of portrayal only undermines our own argument that it is government intervention in general into the student loan market that had over many years led to young people graduating with easily six figures of student loan debt.
While it's good to see others acknowledge the government's role in creating the problems we face, I do not think it does any real good whatsoever in convincing the average person when it comes off as a partisan attack. In fact, it probably has the opposite effect from my own experiences in talking with people.
