BREAKING Trump's Top Economic Adviser Gary Cohn To Resign
Gary D. Cohn, President Trump’s top economic adviser, plans to resign, reports The New York Times.
“Gary has been my chief economic adviser and did a superb job in driving our agenda, helping to deliver historic tax cuts and reforms and unleashing the American economy once again,” President Trump said in a statement to The New York Times. “He is a rare talent, and I thank him for his dedicated service to the American people.”
Cohn has been a force in arguing against the ill-conceived tariffs that Trump plans to put on steel and aluminum. This appears to be a clear signal that he has lost this battle and that Trump is going full protectionist, which will do nothing but shrink the U.S. economy. The trade neanderthals will be left in charge.

Oh no we lost one of the Goldman Sachs guys.
ReplyDeleteBuh-bye Gary. Libertarian now sad GS has one less crony in the house? Really?
ReplyDeleteSad because there are still bigger rats playing with our money and our lives.
DeleteI figured you'd pipe up on this one with some crocodile tears. You can keep rooting for GS cronies to win the day. I won't.
DeleteSo Hollow Daze - you're a protectionist begging for the federal government to intervene and distort the economy? If so, then what can I say? Your economic ignorance is staggering and I simply have no interest in debating loser worshipers of the state
DeleteNice try with your false dichotomy. GS crony/status quo="free" trade? Sure. The reality is one version of managed trade vs. another. So you worship managed trade proffered by crony banksters like GS? A real hero for liberty you are.
Delete@Hollow Daze
DeleteActually you’re the one putting forth the false dichotomy. Not all varieties of state interference with trade are equal. Libertarians can absolutely point out that Cohn’s crony trade views are less destructive than Trump/Ross/Navarro/Bannon’s anti-trade religion.
@E Smiley: Each version of managed, crony trade has its winners and losers. The level of destructiveness is relative. Thats the nature of it and the point. GS cronies lost this one and are taking their ball and going home. Sorry the GS crony you were rooting for didn't win the day.
DeleteI’m sorry too because it seems to foreshadow more protectionist idiocy.
DeleteWaiting for our trade partners to offer a reciprocal tariff of 0. That's fair and free trade everyone can get behind.
