Government Work versus Private Industry Jobs

The new chairman of the Republican National Committee, Michael Steele, appeared on ABC's This Week with George Stephanopoulos on Sunday.

This is the first time I have seen him on television. He was impressive. It appears he actually understands how the economy works and had Stephanopoulos going around in circles trying to explain to him the difference between short-term work created by the "stimulus" package versus long-term jobs that are created by private industry.

I'm not sure, in the end, what stands out the most, Steele's impressive performance, or the clear lack of basic economic understanding by Stephanopoulos, which really becomes apparent when he goes up against someone like Steele who has that knowledge.

Here's the Steele-Stephanopoulos clip.
