Rodman & Renshaw just announced that Randal K. Quarles, Managing Director of The Carlyle Group will participate in a panel discussion on the banking industry at the Rodman & Renshaw Annual Global Investment Conference.
Quarles, prior to joining The Carlyle Group in 2007, was Under Secretary of the Treasury where he led the Treasury's activities in financial sector and capital markets policy, fiscal policy and operations, and government assets and liabilities. Before serving as Under Secretary, Quarles served as Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs from 2002 – 2005 and as U.S. Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund from 2001. He was also a member of the Plunge Protection Team.
The conference will be held September 9 thru 11 at the New York Palace Hotel. I won't be able to attend but anyone who is in NYC and wants to understand what is going on in the banking sector should consider attending. In April of 2008, I attended a speech given by Quarles in Washington D.C., at the time the financial crisis was primarily viewed as just a small problem in the sub-prime market. Not Quarles, he knew exactly what was coming and how severe it would get. See for yourself, here's my post on the meeting. The man knew. His speech was a full five months before Lehman Brothers went under.
It will make sense to pay attention to what he says this September.
