Toyota's massive recall of cars and trucks in the United States to fix an accelerator problem only came after pressure from the US government, a top US official said Tuesday.
"Since questions were first raised about possible safety defects, we have been pushing Toyota to take measures to protect consumers," Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said.
"While Toyota is taking responsible action now, it unfortunately took an enormous effort to get to this point," he said in a statement.
Department of Transportation officials flew to Japan in December "to remind Toyota management about its legal obligations and followed up with a meeting at DOT headquarters in January to insist that they address the accelerator pedal issue," LaHood said.
"We're not finished with Toyota and are continuing to review possible defects and monitor the implementation of the recalls."
Now that the U.S.government owns big part of American automakers,it is using dirty and corrupt tactics in order to move the market and increase sales towards local manufacturers by pointing out defects on their Japanese competitors who beats with quality and innovation the local manufacturers. These are the same tactics used currently by the government in politics and show how corruption and back biting inside our government can go as far as they like and can be used in any arena. Of course they use the tactic of "protecting the Consumer" the same way the used that tactic before in order to remove our freedom and liberties in the name of "national security" . Consumer are not that fool and will find out the truth and keep buying the best not the junk American automakers have always provided us with,despite this dirty tactics. Let's give them some time....
