Proposed 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution

Here's an Amendment proposal that will go viral:
Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators and/or Representatives; and, Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators and/or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States.

  1. They should also add a Bastiat subsection to this amendment:

"See if the law takes from some persons what belongs to them, and gives it to other persons to whom it does not belong. See if the law benefits one citizen at the expense of another by doing what the citizen himself cannot do without committing a crime."

  2. Please add "Congress shall make no law that turns one citizen into a human sacrifice for another citizen or group."

  3. Rather than adding anything, I believe it would benefit all if we shortened this "amendment" to just its first five words: "Congress shall make no law"

    I think Bastiat would aprove.

  4. Is this a dream? Is this actually a real proposal?

  5. Good morning,

I am the originator of the proposed 28th Amendment. I proposed it when reading a commentary on the passage of the Healthcare law. My full proposal for the Amendment is:

    Amendment 28

"Congress shall enact no law that applies to the
citizens of the United States and that does not
apply equally to the President, Senators, Representatives. And further, all of the current
laws shall be amended to reflect the above"

Specifically within that bill I noted the exemption given:

In the Health Care Law: Page 114 Line 22

Exempts: President O’Bama, Congressmen, and Senators
(Includes their families) from complying with the legislation’s
    Mandate to buy Health Insurance.

This is just one example of why Americans are feeling abused these days. There are so many more examples of the American “privileged class”. To have the power, privilege, duty and the responsibility of governance is in itself an assume undertaking. It seems, however, many of those holding office forget why they are there.

They are not for personal gain. A one term congressman gets paid full retirement at our expense. The logic escapes me. Was it because he was unable to secure any appreciable government, or other, contracts for his district and therefore should be rewarded for his effort? Was it because through his votes with others that we are now looking at trillions of dollars of national debt each year? Was it through his joining in congressional proclamations that certain organizations or individuals should be recognized for their good deeds or accomplishments? Still, the logic eludes me entirely.

A possible solution to the mess Washington’s privileged 528 has made of things. Why not add another check and balance to our governmental process. I suggest a National Referendum on the laws we have on the books. It might be messy at first, but it’ll smooth out and catch America’s eye for sure. This will be empowering and just may spark interest in those that have never participated in the governmental process before.

One other final thought to help those that are fighting pork barrel spending. I suggest there be a nationally televised show giving specifics on the subject. Additionally, there should be awards. You might call then "Porkies". There would be several of these.

Most expensive Pork Barrel in the Congress (a Congressman)
Most expensive Pork Barrel in the Senate (a Senator)
Most ridicules Pork Barrel in the Congress (a Congressman
Most ridicules Pork Barrel in the Congress ( a Senator)

And the list goes on with so many possibilities. You might have John Maher host it or some other political commentary comedian.

I think you for listening to my comments. Save the nation, support the enactment of Amendment 28.

  6. O.K., I think we all agree on this amendment, and the time is NOW to get it on the ballot. How do we do that?

  7. The Benefits our government employees enjoy now are from the previous politicians and people that had to bribe educated and sophisticated people to represent them. That in a time when the population and education was at a premium and a minority. Today is a different day and the benifits and (Bribe) to get officials to represent us is not viable. To continue allowing these so called priviledged benefits is unfair to all americans. Those who would represent us, should be paid fairly for their position and provide substantial results. When they have completed their job in government, life goes on and they like us need to work and provide for their families. The free retirement for unearned pay and free medical for unearned pay and extremely higher social security than that of the average person should be discontinued. I would also support the amendment to change how politicians are being compensated. I hope to live long enough to see that we the people and our government employees regain our sanity. God Bless America and help us all.

  8. Agreed, there is so much corruption in the Government! My biggest wish is that we could begin with a NATIONAL VOTE on TERM LIMITS. Although we, the people must vote on this question. The politicians in the Senate and Congress will NEVER vote yes for this. It MUST be a national vote. How can we get this on the ballot?
