You just know that no piece of legislation is passed these days in Congress without two key features:
1. More of our liberties are taken away
and
2. There are special rules and regulations that will benefit politically connected industry insiders.
Thus, I cringe when I hear news that Congress is poised to pass an ambitious 'food-safety' bill. Reports the Chicago Tribune:
The bill would give the FDA broad new powers to force recalls of tainted foods, regulate imported foods and ingredients, and conduct more frequent inspections of food-production facilities.
This type power is outrageous enough, but I sincerely doubt it stops there. As Nancy Pelosi might say, Congress needs to pass the bill to see what is in it.
