Appeals Court Rules Rahm Emanuel Not Eligible to Run for Mayor of Chicago

An Illinois appeals court panel has ruled that Rahm Emanuel, the former White House chief of staff, does not qualify to run for mayor of Chicago in next month’s election.

A Chicago Election Board ruled that Emanuel met the one year residency requirement to run for Mayor, despite the fact that Emanuel for most of last year was living in Washington D.C, while he served as White House chief of staff. Chicago has a one year residency requirement. The appeals court overruled that decision, saying that the requirement states that a person running for mayor must actually reside in the city as opposed to being a technical resident of the city.

Emanuel can appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court. It is then the Court's option as to whether to hear the case or not. Emanuel currently is well ahead in the Mayor's race. In recent polls more than 40% of polled voters said  they plan to vote for him for him, with the rest of the votes scattered over a pack of other candidates.

  2. I would be suprised if this ruling stands. We must understand our federal court system and our bureaucracy today is comprised of politicians. They have attained these positions of power only because they have a proven track record of voting favorably for the money class. Regardless of where you look, Drugs companies that profit from selling us dangerous drugs, Monsanto's monopoly of the seed markets, or the removal of property rights in rulings like Kelo v. New London. Justice is not a product of our higher courts. Sotomayer was appointed by Obama after ruling that a pastor did not have the right to post a bible verse on a private billboard in Okwedy V. Molinari, thus denying him his Constituional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion. S. 3081 introduced by Sen. John McCain in Sec. 5 states "an individual, including a CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES, determined to be an unprivileged enemy belligerent may be detained WITHOUT CRIMINAL CHARGES AND WITHOUT TRIAL for the duration of hostilities against the United States or it's coalition partners. We will continue to vote in the entrenched two party system because history is proof that man will never learn from history.
