The Elites and the Gaddafi Family

PEU Report/State of the Division has done some great work on the relationship between Saif Gaddafi and the ruling elite.

PEU Reports:
The Carlyle Group hosted a dinner in Saif's honor at the Washington Club in 2008. The Libyan reporter butchered the names of influential Reagan officials, but one could deduce James A. Baker, III and Frank Carlucci attended, in addition to the State Department's David Welch. Saif met with thirty one Senate and House members during his trip.

PEU also notes:
Senator John McCain tweeted from the Gadhafi ranch
From the LSE (Via PEU), promoting a May 2009 talk by the younger Gadhafi. Note Saif's thesis title:
25 May: Saif al-Islam Al-qadhafi · Libya: Past, Present, and Future

Saif al-Islam Alqadhafi is currently Chairman of the Gaddafi International Foundation for Charity and Development based in Tripoli, Libya. He received his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics in 2009. The topic of his thesis was "The Role of Civil Society in the Democratization of Global Governance Institutions: From 'Soft Power' to Collective Decision-Making?"

Finally, PEU notes:
CNBC said Libyan oil comes out the ground for the low cost of $1 per barrel.

That's one heck of a profit margin with oil over $100 per barrel.

  1. In her Daily Beast column Judith Miller offered Harvard Prof. Michael Porter up for slaughter for dealing with Saif Gadhafi. With Sir Howard Davies of LSE already roasting, that means two Western capitalist educators will pay for dealing with Libya.

Porter and Davies are Lyndie England. The true elites bargaining with the Gadhafis remain unnamed by mainstream media.
